Some of The Best Photos of Space Captured This Year

From discovering burping black holes to exploding supernovas, 2016 has been full of accomplishments in space. NASA has been at the forefront of driving advances in technology, science, aeronautics and space exploration.

The Juno and Kepler missions are two of the most incredible achievements of NASA in 2016. The Kepler mission in May verified 1,284 new planets – the single largest finding of exoplanets to date.

It was also the year when the first private mission to the moon was approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. And perhaps the most exciting exoplanet ever discovered was found this year.

The year also marked the end of one historic mission as astronauts Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko returned to Earth after 340 days on the International Space Station.

NASA’s telescopes and spacecraft have captured some of the most breathtaking images of our universe. Get ready to witness the grandeur and beauty of the universe in the photos below.
