A single Guinness World Record itself is beyond most of us and setting or breaking a record would certainly make us proud. But for Ashrita Furman setting records seems more like a hobby or part of life.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, the 62-year old has spent the last 37 years of his life breaking various records around the world. It all started when he was a little boy, reading the Guinness Book of Records and dreaming that one day he will break one himself.
He realized his dream in 1979 when he set the world record with 27,000 jumping jacks, in New York City. He immediately began preparing for the next record and has never stopped since.
Some of his most memorable records include balancing for the longest time on a Swiss ball, underwater cycling, walking the fastest mile with a milk bottle on the head, and balancing the world’s longest pole among others.
Ashrita has set more than 500 official Guinness Records since 1979. He currently holds more than 200 standing records including the official record for the most records held at the same time by an individual.
